Paper Cut Workshops
For expressing creativity through the folk craft of ‘paper cutting’
What is Paper Cutting?
Paper cutting is the mediative craft and art form of cutting intricate designs out of paper using scissors 0r a craft knife. It is prevalent in many cultures across the world being used to mark special occasions, sent as greetings and valentines cards and used as shadow puppets. Paper cut is often seen in folk arts and crafts due to the accessible materials that can be found in the home.
Workshops for Schools
Using craft to educate can be an engaging and interactive way to learn, while also expressing creativity.
With two year three classes I ran a paper cut workshop focusing on symmetry, folding along the centre, drawing half a design and cutting it out with scissors. They had multiple templates to use while also being encouraged to create their own, which were all used to create a big display in their library. I tailored the workshop to their topic on rivers by creating templates of local river bank plants, along with a presentation of examples.
Workshops for classes can be adapted to suit a wide range of topics as well as ages ranges.
Workshops for Adults
For Adult workshops the focus is mindfulness, learning a new skill and having a personalised piece of art that they have created to gift or display.
For the workshop at the Garden Museum in London we created paper cuts based on some seasonal vegetables, working with printed templates as well as a display of vegetables to draw from. I also created a mini zine containing a brief history of the craft, some techniques and helpful tips and some examples.
This workshop can be adapted to suit any age, ability level or theme for museums, educators, universities and personal groups. Please inquire bellow for more information and I can tailor a workshop to you.
